solo exhibition | GlogauAIR, Berlin | 2024
Conceived as a place for interaction, ‘A Thousand Gestures’ employs textile sculpture and video to explore softness as a form of community building. Created through a participatory methodology with artists-in-residence at GlogauAIR, the work challenges traditional authorship by transforming the gallery into a site of encounter. The soft sculptures are not static objects but invitations to action; visitors are encouraged to hug, cuddle, and rest upon them, physically activating the art and leaving their imprint on the shared space. The accompanying video work weaves intimate interviews with the collaborating artists, examining the vital role of touch in sustaining personal and professional bonds. By centering these shared voices, the installation reframes touch as an active, connective force that reshapes our sense of self and our relationships with others.
The project was supported by Memoria Artística Chema Alvargonzalez.
