A Thousand Gestures: Sewing Circles

workshops | GlogauAIR, Berlin | 2024

Serving as the participatory core of the exhibition ‘A Thousand Gestures’, a series of sewing workshops took place at GlogauAIR in Berlin between January and March 2024. The initial sessions brought artists-in-residence together to collectively shape the interactive soft sculptures for the exhibition opening. Later, the circles opened to visitors, inviting them to contribute their own stitches to the installation. The bodies gathering in these sewing sessions left a tangible trace of their presence, embedding their gestures into the fabric until the exhibition’s close. Reflecting the work’s commitment to continuous evolution, these textiles will not be discarded but repurposed for future projects. They carry forward the accumulated interventions of many hands, ensuring the artwork remains a living, growing testament to collaborative creation.

Workshops presented at GlogauAIR Project Space in Berlin. Part of 'A Thousand Gestures', an exhibition and public programme curated by Suzy Royal. The project was supported by Memoria Artística Chema Alvargonzalez.
